Following the election held on December 10th, we are pleased to share more insights from the distinguished members of WAREG’s new Board. Their leadership and expertise will guide our work over the next two years as we tackle challenges in the water sector and promote regulatory excellence across Europe.

Vera Eiró, President of WAREG and President of ERSAR, Portugal

“I am deeply honoured to lead WAREG during this transformative period. Our focus will be on strengthening collaboration between members and with EU institutions, advancing regulatory practices and efficiency in service provision, and addressing the pressing challenges of climate neutrality and resilience in the water sector. Together, we can make a significant impact for the communities we serve.”

Andrea Guerrini, Permanent Vice-President of WAREG and Board Member of ARERA, Italy

“I am honoured to represent ARERA and Italy in such a significant role as Vice-president. This appointment is the result of the work we have carried out as an Authority in recent years to strengthen water sector regulation and contribute to the transition towards more equitable and sustainable management models.”

Pál Ságvári, Vice-President of WAREG and Vice-President of MEKH, Hungary

“I am deeply honoured to have been elected as Vice-President of WAREG. This is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the shared vision of our members for a stronger, more resilient association. Moving forward, I am committed to fostering collaboration among Members and with external stakeholders and EU partners to address the pressing challenges in the water sector, from climate resilience to affordability. As the momentum towards building a sustainable and circular economy grows, I see opportunities for our Association in exploiting multisector synergies derived from energy and municipal waste regulation in several WAREG Members. I look forward to working with the new Board and all our Members to achieve these ambitious goals.”

Ivaylo Kastchiev, Vice-President of WAREG and Director at EWRC, Bulgaria

“The water and sanitation sector needs to introduce best governance and regulation practices to address climate change and meet new EU requirements for energy neutrality, water quality, risk assessment, and public information. WAREG will continue to facilitate knowledge sharing, capacity building, and providing public information to support national regulators and EU institutions in implementing these standards and addressing customer expectations. As author and co-author of several WAREG surveys, reports, and positions, I will pursue my professional and academic efforts to advance these objectives in the public interest.”

Konstantinos Tsimaras, Vice-President of WAREG and Vice-President of RAAEY, Greece

“It is with gratitude that I accept the trust placed in me by my fellow members. As Vice-President of WAREG, I see great opportunities ahead to strengthen the role of regulators in safeguarding equitable and efficient water services. The new Board will focus on building synergies, not just among our members but also with European institutions and partners. This is a pivotal time for the water sector, and I am excited to contribute to WAREG’s mission of promoting sustainability, innovation, and consumer protection. Together, we will chart a path forward that delivers tangible results for all stakeholders.”

The WAREG Board will serve until the end of 2026, focusing on sustainability, resilience, and innovation.
